Tips for trips
Caorle
Caorle is a colourful fishing village just above Venice and has become a popular holiday destination in recent years. Several large campsites and many hotels provide that real holiday atmosphere, but at the port of Caorle you can still feel that authentic ambiance. The city centre with her colourful houses in small streets and nice bars and restaurants is the place to be during the day and in the evening. In the surrounding of Caorle you can find some nice sandy beaches and in the laguna you will see the Casone (fishermen's houses) that are so typical of this region.
Lido di Jesolo
Lido di Jesolo has a long beach where there is a lot of fun for both young and old. There is a long shopping street (13 km) with many bars, restaurants, and shops right on the beach. Furthermore, you can find the best Aquapark of Italy in Jesolo, named Caribe Bay , as well as Sealife and Tropicarium for cloudy days. Gustocamp campsite Pra delle Torri is located 4 km from the center of Caorle.
Cavallino
The beaches at Cavallino are long and sandy. There is an excellent balance between the sea and the lagoon, which has resulted in a unique flora and fauna. For nature lovers and people who want to stay close to the ferry to Venice, it is highly recommended. The Gustocamp campsites Sant Angelo, Garden Paradiso, Union Lido, and Marina di Venezia are located in Cavallino.
Venice
Venice is one of the best visited cities of Italy. The combination of a rich history and many sights makes Venice a popular destination. The unique selling point of Venice is off course the location of the old city on islands in a lagoon, where transport is forced to take place by water. The many canals and the beautiful Venetian gondolas are a huge attraction for tourists from all over the world. Many people want to visit Venice at least once in their lives.
With or without a guide, on foot or by water taxi you will always encounter the highlights of Venice. Most of the people arrive at the train station of parking lot at Piazza Roma or with the boat near the San Marco square. On San Marco’s square you will see the Dogen palace (Palazzo Ducale), the bell tower and the great church Basilico. Via the small streets and many bridges, you follow the arrows towards the bridge of bridges, the Rialto bridge over the Canale Grande, the canal that really splits the city in half. A gondola tour, with or without a singing gondolier, should of course not be missed when visiting this most Romantic city in Italy.
The islands in the Lagoon
Venice is surrounded by 45 islands in the lagoon. The most famous of these are also the most visited namely Murano, Burano and Torcello. Murano is the glassblower island and almost the entire population lives from it. You will find shops on every corner of the street and you can actually see this art in various places.
Burano is picturesque, authentic and is known because of its beautiful colored houses. The village only has 3500 inhabitants and would like to keep it that way. This island is also known for its lace and this is also reflected in many souvenir shops that are often located at home and this craft is also displayed on the street. The island of Torcello met a different fate: it was precisely the island to which the people moved during the conquests by the barbarians. Only when Venice was built in the 9th century, with stones from this island of Torcello, did the inhabitants leave again. Now this island has only 60 inhabitants!
Tip! You can book these island tours directly from the campsites that we have in our program.
South of Venice, tourism is focused on the golden beaches that this region offers. From Chioggia to Rimini, the range of campsites and seaside resorts located on this coastline is large. This region is also blessed with a beautiful flora and fauna in the lagoon. Cities such as Bologna, Ferrara and Ravenna are well worth a visit.
Bologna
In the early Middle Ages the city of Bologna was full with high towers and arcades. During the glory days in the Middle Ages, the city counted almost 200 towers of which some where over 80 meters high. The towers were mainly used as a status symbol and to protect the city. Ultimately, there are about twenty towers left.
The wealth was mainly shown in the construction of all kinds of palaces, sculptures, fountains, cemeteries and of course the St. Petronius Basilica. The historic centre has now been valued by UNESCO. Bologna is also worth a visit because of the many museums. Art and culture come together beautifully in an extremely suitable setting. Because the city of Bologna is above all very beautiful. In addition, you can also see Bologna as the culinary capital of Italy. Various delicious dishes and products come from here, such as the meat sauce (ragu) that is served with pasta.
Ferrara
Ferrara is located on the right bank of river de Po and is a trading city for fruit and wine, agricultural machinery, sugar industry, chemical and petrochemical industry, distilleries and potteries. At the end of the last century, Ferrara was placed on the World Heritage list of Unesco. The city still looks the same as it did four centuries ago when it was built by the Este family.
The city is still completely surrounded by walls. During construction, they were built well around the center. The streets were also spaciously laid out at the time. Various cycling routes have been set out within the city. Cycling nine kilometres over four centuries old walls is very special. Ferrara is also the capital of the province of Emiglia Romagna.
Ravenna
The coast city Ravenna offers tourists all they can expect from an Italian holiday: art, culture, great food and a beautiful coastline to explore. Since 1996 Ravenna’s artistic monuments are on the list of the Unesco heritage list. Ravenna used to be the capital of the Roman Empire. From 402 AD the city transformed into a majestic metropolis with expensive extravagant buildings and a source of creativity in the form of art, architecture and the art of the mosaic.
Eight major and beautifully preserved monuments have helped Ravenna to achieve its prestigious World Heritage Site status. Start your artistic tour with a trip to two mausoleums that are beautifully constructed and decorated with huge mosaics of rich blues, oranges, greens and golds.
